Babe Ruth貝比魯斯在紅襪隊留下的「隊史最年輕季後賽先發」紀錄，被荷蘭小子Xander Bogaerts打破！美聯冠軍賽第5戰，21歲又16天的Bogaerts擔任先發三壘手，改寫Ruth的21歲又246天記錄。

「是時候把Bogaerts丟入火中了。」紅襪隊總教練John Farrell說。

Farrell之所以要把Bogaerts拉上先發的理由，還有一個，那就是原本的三壘手Will Middlebrooks，打得實在太爛。Middlebrooks例行賽最後15場出賽，58打數擊出8支安打，打擊率0.138。到了季後賽，Middlebrooks未見好轉，23打數4安打，尤其美聯冠軍賽10支1，終於丟掉先發地位。

「我們希望加強三游的進攻火力，」教頭Farrell說，「從Bogaerts不多的機會裡面，我發現他一直在進步。」

Farrell的說法並非場面話。Bogaerts在美聯冠軍賽第一戰代打，對決老虎隊守護神Joaquin Benoit，打出不營養飛球出局。賽後Bogaerts說，下次再碰頭，一定會「對方一點顏色瞧瞧」。

Bogaerts真的做到了！系列賽第四戰，他從Benoit手上擊出二壘安打，還以顏色。

不過，紅襪隊如果要加強三游火力，那為何不換季後賽打得更爛的游擊手Stephen Drew？教頭Farrell的解答是：「因為對方推右投(Anibal Sanchez)先發，所以我們得留下左打者。」

Bogaerts沒讓教頭漏氣，先發的這一戰再度敲出二壘安打，並回本壘得分。這位小將本季例行賽成績是：出賽18場，打擊率0.250、1發紅不讓、2支二壘打。
