彭博社1日報導，拜智慧型手機出貨量勁揚以及美國、中國大陸需求回溫之賜，南韓5月外銷金額年增3.2%、遠優於經濟學家此前預期的年減0.9%。南韓5月進口額年減4.8%、為連續第4個月呈現下滑。南韓5月貿易順差達60億美元、創2010年10月以來新高，較4月的24億美元順差額大增150%。

南韓5月無線電信裝置外銷金額年增62.5%。就區域別而言，5月外銷至美國、中國大陸的金額分別年增21.6%、16.6%，出口至日本的金額則是年減11.7%。

道瓊社報導，南韓去(2012)年外銷年減1.3%、為3年來首度呈現衰退。

匯豐(HSBC)、markit 3日公佈，南韓5月製造業採購經理人指數(PMI)自4月的52.6降至51.1。許多南韓製造業廠商抱怨，弱勢日圓已提升日本競爭對手的競爭力。

三星電子(Samsung Electronics)於5月23日宣佈，旗艦智慧手機「Galaxy S4」全球出貨量已突破1千萬支大關、創公司有史以來最快達到1千萬支的紀錄。S4是在4月26日於全球開賣。
